Dr. Brian Gurley

Dr. Brian Gurley is Director of Music and Organist at Saint Paul Cathedral, in Pittsburgh, PA.  A native of Pittsburgh, Dr. Gurley holds degrees from Grove City College, the University of Notre Dame, and the University of Wisconsin–Madison.  At Wisconsin, he was the 2011-2013 recipient of the Lorna Jorgensen Wendt Wisconsin Distinguished Graduate Fellowship, an award given to outstanding doctoral students in choral conducting.  Having a particular interest in early music, his doctoral research project focused on performance practice options for the polychoral works of the 16th century Spanish composer, Tomás Luis de Victoria.  From 2013 to 2021, Dr. Gurley served as Choirmaster and Director of Music at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany, New York.  There, he founded the Cathedral Choir School of Albany, an intergenerational choral program serving adult choristers and school-age choristers in Grades K-12.  In addition to his position at Saint Paul Cathedral, Dr. Gurley also serves as Associate Director of Music for the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
